more new!

I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out. I finished the mantis and there's another new one I'm not quite sure about yet. I hope to have those up before long (actually, I hope to have nicer photos of this whole series in the next few weeks).

two new ones

I think the first one looks like a roast chicken or a baby fox in a fur coat; my friend Shanah says she sees wings. The second makes me think of this dream I had where I went into this cathedral that was filled with hundreds of animatronic cows, like the kind you'd see in stew leonard's, but they were wearing priestly robes and would chant stuff if you pressed the right button. It was kind of terrifying.

Centzon Totochtin are 400 Aztec rabbits that get together and drink lots of pulque. Apparently there is canned pulque available at a couple of grocery stores in Brooklyn; they say it also comes in strawberry flavor. I plan on buying some and (since it's forbidden to girls) really pissing off the gods. I don't plan on doing a whole lot of flaying, though (I was reading about Aztec rituals recently and boy, were they big on that).

I was backpacking this summer and woke up with this huge grasshopper in my tent.  I thought I got him out. That evening I took my tent out again and he was still in there.  He wasn't hurt and hopped away totally unperturbed.  This looks more like a mantis, though.  It's not quite finished; I'll put up a new photo when it is.

HOBBY HORSE

This is (a kind of crappy image of) the cover art for Hobby Horse's tape Big Man Clap Dance. It is self-released and should be in a few record shops around Brooklyn next month. The image is based on a really creepy found photo.

Here is a collage. It would look much better scanned. Someone left this teddy bear appreciator magazine from the early 90s in the hallway of my building.

 Two more old things. The first is a simultaneous process intaglio print from around 2004 (I had the good fortune to study under Krishna Reddy in college, who literally wrote the book. I want to do a post in admiration of his work before long; it is breathtaking).

The second is enamel on plexiglass from a year or so later. You can't see it in the photo, but it's mounted on gold. Anyway, I figure everyone in Brooklyn has to draw something with a water tower on it once. I was drawing a ton of these puppety stick men in ecclesiastical hats at the time.

Here are some colored pencil drawings from last year. The first is from a photo of my mom when she was a toddler. The second is some lines and circles. Kind of unhappy with how the colors photographed; might try to get a better photo later.
